Favorite Vacations As A Kid
I was reading through travel news and I came across this slide show and article of 15 places every kid should see. I absolutely loved it! Even though most of these places I still have not seen and according to the government I am no longer a kid (although I still feel like one), it got me thinking about some of my favorite vacations when I was younger.
First off, you can look through the slide show (which is actually really cute) or I will just recap some of the places for you. 10 of the 15 places every kid should see are the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty, Colonial Williamsburg, Lincoln Memorial, Niagra Falls, Gettysburg, Alamo, Pearl Harbor, Monitcello, and Disneyworld.
I think when you are a kid you enjoy vacations as a family but when you look back at the vacations is when
you realize why your parents went through all the trouble and hassle to load up the brats and the picnic basket and put up with all the complaining. The memories and experiences make it worth it. My husband’s family would pack up the van and for months during the summer drive across the country and stop and see anything and everything along the way. When I married him he had been to 49 of the 50 states (we made is 50 this memorial day when we went to Alaska). His family is very close, which I am sure in part stems from these trips and have billions of stories and memories that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Some of my personal favorite vacations from when I was a kid would have to be Disneyland, visiting the Grand Canyon with my grandparents, day trips to San Francisco, visiting Cannon Beach in Oregon, visiting Victoria in Canada and many others. So thank you to my parents for putting up with the kids and taking us on these trips! What are some of your favorite vacations as a kid?

Among my favorite vacations was a trip we took to San Felipe, Baja, mexico. Instead of Christmas presents we spent a couple weeks in a foreign country. It was an experience I will always remembers and a good cultural lesson.

i had some very interesting family trips.. when i was 8 we went on a disney cruise in the bahamas..we stopped at Nassau where we took a limo ride all through the drug lord’s mansions while my parents got trashed. very interesting indeed. it was a great cruise though. The “meaningful” trips I went on as a kid–like D.C.–were great–but I have a hard time remembering them…and what I do remember about them are not the historic sights, but the hot weather or nasty food–oh, to be a little kid again!! I mostly remember specifics about the annual trips–Lake Powell, Bear Lake, St.George/Zions.

I’m 10 for 15 on that list. To be fair, I visited the top of the World Trade Center before it was Ground Zero (in August of 2001 no less) and kind of wish Ground Zero wasnt on that list. Too creepy and sad.
I think my favourite vacation spot as a kid was my annual family trip to a lake in upstate NY. The location was secondary to the family together time for sure, but I have fond memories of fishing with my uncle & grandfather and hanging with all the cousins.
