The Downside Of Airborne Wi-Fi

Las Vegas airWhile many of us are excited that we will now be able to get Wi-Fi on some of our favorite airlines (Delta and American), others groan. Why the long face? Apparantly people are upset that  the one place where we were able to tell our bosses and co-workers you will be unreachable for the next three hours- you will actually indeed be reachable (read article here).

Personally I’m ecstatic about the thought of being able to blog while actually traveling at 500 knots. Although it is an extra cost (averages about $10 an hour for three hour flights and more for longer) and that does not make me too happy- remember I’m a cheapo traveler! I also think it could be handy to be able to work on the flight and get things out of the way before I land. But that’s just me- I’m all about maximizing my time. Hey- at least we can’t talk on phones during flights. But you will never please everyone- so I applaud the airlines for finding new revenue streams and making advances in thier industry. You can always just choose not to buy access.

When I read about this I immediately thought it would be good, but I can see how it could just add to the stress of business flights. I would love it if I was traveling for pleasure, but I would hate it while traveling for work.

Personally, I like to sleep on flights. However, it would be nice to plug in and accomplish something on a long flight. One problem I see is the current lack of power adapters on planes. They are usually only located in special seats and higher class cabins.

Is Southwest the first to actually roll it out? … today.
