Guest Post: NY, NY- Helluva Town!
This month, my wife and I had the opportunity to score $200 plane tickets to New York City. Jet Blue was doing a promotion that featured discounted flights to various major cities – some for less than $50 each way. We quickly capitalized on this opportunity and last week we made the journey to the Big Apple.
Prior to this trip, I had flown with a wide array of carriers but never Jet Blue. I have always preferred Delta because of their Sky Miles program. I’m not sure why, but I always thought Jet Blue was the worst. I don’t know where this idea came from but I have avoided them at all costs. I have since realized the error of my ways. After flying with them, Jet Blue is probably one of my favorite carriers. Not only do they provide blue potato chips as a mid-flight snack, they also have TV’s in the back of all the headrests, the flight attendants were stellar and their seats had lots of leg room (as long as you don’t sit in the very back). All-in-all, it was a good experience.
The first thing we did in New York was hit up the museums. Our favorite was the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) . Now, I’ve never considered myself a connoisseur of modern art, or any art for that matter, but I really liked what I saw. While there, we observed what appeared to be a 4th grade field trip. We listened in and I too was schooled in the way of art. The kids were discussing a particular painting’s significance and meaning. I thought, “Hey, I’m smarter than a 4th grader,” and Emi and I set off to find good art. We were both a little bummed when we found that Van Gogh’s The Starry Night was in a traveling exhibit, but there were a couple of other Van Goghs to appreciate.
Our favorites were both painted by Picasso (An artist who’s work is featured a lot at the MoMA). In addition to our favorites both being Picassos, they were both also musical instruments. My favorite was Guitar which was actually a sculpture made from sheet metal and wire. Emi’s favorite was Violin and Grapes.
For anyone traveling to NYC, I’d defiantly suggest stopping by the MoMA. And for you cheapskates, it’s free on Fridays after 4:00.
