Packing, Packing, Packing

Did I mention that I hate to pack? I can’t ever decide if I hate packing more or unpacking. The DTM crew are notorious light packers. We HATE checking bags and haven’t checked a bag in about three years. I guess you could say we are hard core. When my luggage broke at LAX last May and we decided we were too lazy to replace it- we became even lighter packers. That means that for two of us we shared one carry-on. Yup, you heard me right. Then BabyTravels came along. And I still cannot figure out how one little tiny person can need SO MUCH STUFF!

So we went shopping for a new carry-on for me… or really for the baby. We each had a goal in mind of what we wanted that luggage to look like. I of course being a sophisticated woman wanted a bag that was attractive and could hold a lot of stuff. Reid, however wanted a great deal on a Samsonite bag (he really likes Samsonite). So after quite a bit of shopping we found a gorgeous red Samsonite roller bag at Ross. And I love it.

The bag has only been with the DTM crew for a month and has seen Las Vegas, Arizona (twice) and been to Hawaii. Hawaii was a 6 day trip and we still managed to just pack two carry-ons, a diaper bag, and a camera bag (really good thing the condo had a washer and dryer). It’s just something we have committed to. Since we don’t like to check bags, and we make a lot of connecting flights this means we have to lug around all our stuff through airports- the less the better. It’s really taught me how to cram things in my suitcase better, pack really lightly, and bring ONLY the essentials.

So now as I sit here packing for our trip to North Dakota this weekend, I have two piles. One pile is the stuff that will be stuffed into an already overflowing red Samsonite suitcase and the other is the stuff I wanted to stuff in there but is a unrealistic hope. Wish me luck

I’m SO done with over-packing. In fact, I’m typing it here just to make it more true! Our next trip to Vancouver we are intentionally taking the train and not our car so that I will be forced to slim down what we bring -only the bare essentials. Never have I thought on a trip – “I sure wish I’d brought more stuff!” It’s always the opposite. But it’s hard when baby is under one year old – I was always afraid of needing something and not having it, whether it’s the bottle of children’s benedryl or a warm fleece blanket. Good luck!

Hi, just doing some research for my Samsonite website. Lots of information out there. Not what I was looking for, but nice site. Have a great day.
