Reid is currently in Jamaica right now on a blogger meet up. I am currently at home in 101 degree weather, 7 months pregnant, taking care of a rambuctious two year old and feeling sorry for myself. So today while thebabytravels was napping I decided to look through some of our previous posts and also some of the pictures I have taken while traveling on my phone. I came across this set of pictures I took last year on our journey to Tokyo and decided to post them in case anyone else found them as interesting as I do (also these are not meant to be braggy. I can’t stand reading braggy blog posts can you?).

I’ve flown first class many times in the recent few years, and I always get the same question: “Is it really worth it?” YES! It’s this amazing place where you are treated with dignity and respect, get as many snacks and drinks as you want, have legroom, easy access to a lavatory and did I mention the snacks? It’s actually relaxing when you fly in first or business class. I know what a concept right? To be able to relax on an airplane?

Well, it had always been a dream of mine to fly business or first class on an international flight. Is that weird? Maybe I should dream a little bigger. And it’s still my dream to fly first class on a 747. Maybe I will be able to make that happen next year. Anyways, our flight to Tokyo seemed to be just the right time to make dreams come true. We were flying direct from SLC to Tokyo so we are talking a 12 hour flight. That’s right 12 hours along with a 15 hour time difference. But to be honest the time flew by sitting in first class. Ask Reid about his 8 hour flight from Chicago to London the next month. It didn’t fly by as fast (coach/middle seat enough said). I watched movies, ate gourmet food and slept! It was actually pleasant.

So here are some pictures I want to share from the expirience so you too can feel like you have flown business class on an international flight in case you haven’t had the pleasure yet:

Can we say business class dork? Yup, go ahead and say it. Those seats are like pods and allow you to lay almost flat without disrupting people behind you.

I guess they let just about anyone in business class these days! (Just kidding- Love you Reid even if you are in Jamaica right now!)

Pretty sure that I watched 5 movies on the way to Tokyo. Yeah you read that right, 5! And I still had time to take a nap! These were pretty big personal TVs probably 12 x 12 inches. They had tons of movies to choose from.

Forget bagged peanuts and a plastic cup of coke, these nuts were warm and drinks are served in real glasses. (Also 5 points to anyone who can name the movie I'm watching!)

This was the appetizer on the way over. It was really good. I think the soup was a creamy tomato, then there was beets and bleu cheese and I can't remember the third item. It was really good.

This was the appetizer on the way back. I can't remember what most of it was, so just use your imagination.

Main course on our way to Tokyo. It was ok but nothing I had compared to this...

Oh my bowl of delicious noodleness. This was when we are actually in Japan. So, so, so good. I would travel 12 hours in coach just for this.

Ok back to the flight, have you ever been served icecream on a flight before? Because I hadn't. This is what I chose for dessert. Although they had chocolate cake and cheesecake and cheese plates that looked equally as delicious. Nothing beats an icecream sundae.

So there you have it. That is why my whole life is ruined now. Because of one trip to Tokyo sitting in business class. You can’t go back from that! You really can’t! Otherwise you are sitting in coach knowing what those lucky people in business and first are getting and enjoying! Here’s hoping for a repeat next year when we go to Rome!

Recently, I wrote a blog post about Switzerland’s first 1 star hotel in which they have transformed an old nuclear bunker into a hotel. Well by golly it’s time for another rendition of jaw dropping budget hotel options. Check out this old Pan Am 747 that has been turned into a hostel in Sweden! I mean why not? Old lighthouses, trains, and other unique facilities are often turned into hostels why not a giant (really expensive) airplane? And you even can get married in the left wing- sounds like a dream wedding to me. The hostel rates range from $40 for a bed in a shared four-bed dormitory to $170 for a private room with a twin bed and a single bed. The bridal suite costs $420 per night. The Jumbo Hostel is set to open January 15 but has been taking reservations for awhile now. The good thing about it is it’s very accessible by the airport!
