Eating Around Chicago

January 8th, 2012 by Reid

A few months ago I visited Chicago with my good friend. It was a spontaneous weekend and being that we didn’t have much planned we just saw the sights as we wandered the city. Here are a few places we ate at, some were recommendations and some we just wandered into. These are the places that you have to try when you visit the windy city.

Portillo’s

What started as a hot dog trailer 1963 is one of Chicago’s landmarks. They’re all over the midwest now and even have location in Buena Park, CA. At Portillo’s they have all of the Chicago style dogs and sandwiches. My favorite is the Italian Sausage/Italian Beef combo with hot peppers, you can’t go wrong there. For desert, try a chocolate cake shake. A delightful shake that really has a piece of cake blended in.

Gino’s East

I’m not sure who in Chicago makes the best deep dish, everyone seems to have their favorites. We hit up Gino’s because not only had we heard good things, it was really close to our hotel. It was awesome! Chicago style deep dish is like no other, you’ll have to try it for yourself!

Eating Around Dublin, Ireland

November 18th, 2010 by Reid

First off, let me apologize for not having many pictures of my food in Ireland. It was very difficult to take pictures of my meals because most of the places I ate were dimly lit pubs. I am convinced that Ireland doesn’t really have restaurants, just pubs that serve food along with Guinness. Despite not taking many pictures, I did eat while I was in Ireland. I ate like a marathon runner. Here are a few of the pics I was able to take.

Eating Around: Celebrity Cruises

July 12th, 2010 by Hilarye

Only by a close second does the scenery on our cruise beat the cuisine. And really that’s because it’s Alaska and that’s just no competition. Had we been anywhere else and the food would have been King Supreme. I mean, it even had Reid begging for mercy at one point. He was eating his roasted lamb and he just started nodding his head and saying this is amazing. It takes a lot to get that kind of reaction out of him.
I on the other hand couldn’t stop raving. Most people know I am a foodie at heart, but they also know I do not discriminate. There really isn’t anything I don’t like. I also love gourmet, but I can eat ribs and hamburgers with the best of them. I just appreciate food in all of it’s glory. A cruise is definitly the best of both worlds. You get your fine dining in the main dining room and specialty restaurants but also if you are looking for a good quality face stuffing the buffet is where it’s at. Here are some of the highlights of our favorite food moments from our Celebrity Cruise in pictures, that is if we could bring ourselves to snap a shot before we gobbled it down.

Eating Around Virginia

May 17th, 2010 by Hilarye

Leaving Washington DC and Virginia was really hard. We  both love that area so much and Reid especially since he has such a spiritual connection to the people there. And even though BabyTravels came down with her first respiratory virus while we were there, I would redo the trip in a heartbeat. I have been to DC three times now. Always in May and always an even year. Starting in 2006, 2008 (you can read about that trip here) and now 2010. So as the plane was taking off from DCA I tried not to be too sad as I looked out the window at the infamous monuments and the Potomac as we passed over in the air- I’ll see you in May, 2012!

As always the best part of any vacation is the food- and this vacation did not dissapoint. We ate some of our favorites and a few new ones along the way. That’s my best vacation food advice: Always be willing to try something new!
